The local area
There is so much to see and do in the local area. Why not take a stroll through the impressive stone archway to see the peaceful Fonthill Estate Lake which is set in 10,000 acres of farmland and which was the location for the film ‘Chocolat’. Also learn about the remarkable history of William Beckford’s Fonthill Abbey. ‘Robin Hood Prince of Thieves’ was also filmed at near by Old Wardour Castle. The Riverbarn is featured in many local walk books too.
Parts of The Riverbarn are over 600 years old and it has operated as a business for the last 100 years. In the past it has served as the local shop, a gallery and a Post Office. The latter still provides essential amenities for the locality on two mornings a week. It’s possibly the smallest Post Office in Wiltshire, if not the country! The Riverbarn complements the businesses, trades and services on the magnificent working Fonthill Estate by offering excellent dining experiences as well as catering for special events, parties and private functions by arrangement.
“Scrumptiously tasty food. Very comfortable accommodation. A gem!”
